Denaby Keeper with Wombwell
Wombwell’s chances of recovering their prestige in the Yorkshire League are brighter for the fact that the best of their players have been retained for next season. Among these is goalkeeper Geo. Sharpe, of Denaby Main.
Sharpe’s football career started at Conisbrough Modern School when he was 11 and later he played with Denaby amateurs. In the course of his national service he kept Goal for his Battalion.
The team won 3 cups in one season.
Going North, he played for Fochabers in the Aberdeenshire league. He was with Denaby Rovers when he asked to turn out with Wombwell, for whom he gave a magnificent display against Beighton miner’s welfare, and since that time he has been more or less regular member of the side.
Aftera trial with Doncaster Rovers in the Midland League match he was warmly complemented on his skill, agility and fearlessness.
