Denaby Lane Sewerage Plan

Although they had previously decided to defer a scheme for the reconstruction of Denaby Lane sewerage works, Conisbrough Urban Council decided at their meeting on Wednesday to go ahead with the scheme after consultations with the Ministry of Housing and local Government.

Because of restrictions on capital expenditure and the high in- interest on loans the Council previously decided to defer the scheme although they had been pressed by the Yorkshire Ouse Rivers Board to put the scheme in hand to avoid river pollution.

The Ministry told the Council that they felt that the scheme should proceed despite the Governments present policy to restrict capital expenditure, as the overriding factor was that of public health.

It has now been agreed to proceed with the scheme in stages with the first stage spread over a Period of 12 to 18 months and two further stages to follow. The estimated cost of the whole scheme is over £127,000.

The first stage is to be started on receipt of such further approvals as may be required from the Ministry.
