Denaby Main and District Baby Week,

Denaby Main. and district held a successful Baby week from October 1 to 4. This was held in three districts—Old Denaby and Denaby Main, October 1. The babies were judged by Miss Edwards, matron of Leeds maternity Hospital, and Miss Curtis, of the Leeds Babies’ Welcome.

For this there were72 entries. Balbv street and district babies were judged by Miss Walkling and Miss Johnson, late matron, and her successor of the Q.V.J.N.1.1., Parkgate, on October 2 and had 45 entries.

On October 3 the Conisborough babies were judged by Miss Barrow, of Dore, near Sheffield. For this there were 198 Entries. The judges picked out 12 babies from their district for the final judging day.

The baby week was concluded on Thursday October 4. Prizes were allotted to the six best conditioned babies, the judge in this case being Dr. Atkins, M.0.H., Wombwell. The prizes were presented by Mrs. Atkins

All the judges were delighted at the the condition of the babies generally, and found it a most. difficult undertaking in awarding, marks and prizes. Dr. AtIkins complimented the mothers on the absence of ” dummies,” only twelve being used amongst the 36 picked babies, and congratulated them on the Erie .healthy condition of their babies.

The prize-winners were:—

1st prizes: Lilv and Elsie Yeadon (twians) Oonisboro’; Patricia Wood, Conisboro’; Florence Parry, Denabv Main;

2nd prizes: Muriel Houghey, Conisborough Lionel Hartley, Denaby Main: Maiorie Boot, Denaby Main.

Highly commended babies : Milner, Hawksworth , Whitaker, Curtis, Hare, Bowers and Speight.
