Rossington Street

The houses of Rossington Street had 2 rooms upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs and a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place. They were built in 2 blocks of 10 houses in 1888. Water was installed in 1902. Gas supplied by the Colliery Company was used from 1888 to 1951 when electricity was inbstalled. The houses were demolished in 1971 Photo A.Marsh

Cliff View

The houses in Cliff View were built in three phases, the first had three rooms upstairs, three rooms downstairs, small backyard with outside toilet and coal place. They were built in one block of nine and four blocks of 10 houses in 1868. The “lodging houses” on Woodside View were next and had originally six rooms upstairs and four rooms downstairs, the block of 4 houses was built in 1900. In 1935 the houses were sub divided and made into a block of eight houses, which had three rooms upstairs, two rooms downstairs, a larger rear yard with outside toilet and coal place, Water was installed in 1902. Melton Street

The houses in Melton Street had 2 rooms upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with outside toilet and coalplace. They were built in 2 blocks of 10 houses in 1898. Adwick Street

The houses in Adwick Street had 2 rooms plus an attic upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with outside toilet and coalplace. They were built in, I block of 6, I block of 9, 1 block of 11, and 1 block of I3 houses in 1898. Water was installed in I902. ANNERLEY STREET

The houses in Annerley Street were built in two separate lots, the larger ones, and originally called Annerley Buildings, had 3 rooms upstairs, 3 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place. They were built in 4 blocks of 10, 1 block of 7 houses. plus the doctor’s house and Booth’s house in1868.The other had 2 rooms plus an attic upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place. They were built in 2 blocks of 9, 1 block of 11 and 3 blocks of 12 houses in 1900. Water was installed in 1902. Gas supplied by the Colliery Co. was used from 1878 and 1900 respectively, until l951 when electricity was installed. The houses were demolished in 3 phases in 1967, 1968 and 1969.

Doncaster Road

The houses in Doncaster Road from the crossings to ´Breezes Row’ had 2 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place, they were built in block of 18, 1 block of 20 and one block of 22 houses in 1868. The block of I2 houses on Breeze Row was built la the same year and had 2 rooms plus an attic upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with toilet outside and coal place. Water was installed in 1902 Gas supplied by the Colliery Co. was used from 1878 to l95l when electricity was installed

Houses were being emptied for demolition in Feb. l966 and demolition took place in 1967.

The houses at the other side of Doncaster Road from Newton´s to Kilnhurst Street were of 2 types. There were houses with 3 rooms upstairs, 3 rooms downstairs and a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place. These were built in one block of 10, I block of 11 and 1 block of I2 houses in l898. The others had 2 rooms upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs, a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place and also built in l898 in one block of 5, 1 block of 8 and I block of l7 houses. Water was laid on in l902. Gas supplied by the colliery company was used from I898 to I95I when electricity was installed. Demolition of the houses took place in 1968

Little Tickhill Street

The houses in ´Little’ Tickhill Street, had 2 rooms upstairs, 2 rooms downstairs and a small backyard with outside toilet and coal place. They were built in 3 blocks of 10, and one block of 11 houses in 1886. Water was installed in 1902. Gas supplied by the Colliery Co. was used from 1886 to 1951 when electricity was installed. the houses were demolished in 1971.

Melton Street
