Denaby Main Miners and The Situation.

Last night a meeting of Main miners was held at the Lodgeroom, Doncaster Road, Mexborough.

The men endorsed the recommendation of their representatives advising them not to accept the coal owners resolutions.

A Miner, while admitting that the principle of arbitration was good, could not urge his fellow-workers to accept it at the present juncture. He referred to the general arbitration case in 1879, when the owners were seeking 12 ½ per cent, reduction from the men, Judge Ellison being umpire.

The decision was favourable the men, but did the owners abide by it? If the owners were disloyal before, how could the miners in the Federation rely upon them now?

A strong determination was expressed by men to maintain their present attitude, and afterwards matters were discussed.

It was also decided -to support Mr. John Dixon, secretary to the branch, for the forthcoming School Board election.
