The Denaby Main Miners and the Strike

A largely-attended meeting of the miners employed at Denaby Main was held last night at the Masons’ Arms, Mexboro’. The men decided to give their notices in to-day (Friday).

A few of the miners through a misunderstanding gave in their notices yesterday, but they are all dated from the 23rd inst.

Over 1000 workmen are affected by the decision at the meeting. The men on the whole are unfavourable to a strike, and desire a settlement if it can possibly be effected.

They expressed a hope that the proprietors will make a reasonable offer and meet them in the matter. The men seemed to understand their position thoroughly, and knowing how disastrously both the employers and workmen will be affected if the dispute is not soon settled, expressed a hope that in the meantime, before the expiration of the notice, some amicable arrangement will be arrived at.
