Denaby Mans Accident to his Skull

On Friday morning a very sad accident happened to Mr. Thos. Firth, aged 48, and residing at 103, Doncaster Road, Denaby Main.

Mr. Firth, who was employed in the screens at the Denaby Main colliery, was endeavouring to knock out a scotch from under the wheel of a wagon, when his head was caught between the axle box on the wagon and an upright iron ladder.

A projecting Bolt penetrated his head to a considerable extent and caused a frightful fracture of the skull. He was at once conveyed to the Mexborough cottage Hospital, where he remains in a very crucial condition, although the patient has borne up remarkably well since his admittance, and hopes are entertained of his recovery.

Dr Twigg has the patient under his care, and Dr. Pye-Smith, of Sheffield, was consulted on Sunday, when a throughout examination of the wound was made, and the broken bone extracted.

The accident is rendered more painful by the fact that Mrs. Firth only enjoys delicate health, and lost a son after a long illness not more than seven or eight months ago.
