Peter Mannion, miner, of Denaby Main, was fined £3 and bound over for 12 months at Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Tuesday for assaulting Olag Wall, daughter of the licensee of the Reresby Arms Denaby.

He pleaded not guilty.

Mr G.S.Ward, who prosecuted, said the case was rather a serious one. Of February 1 complaining was serving behind the bar, and noticed defendant come into the house, but did not serve him or speak to him.

At 10 o’clock, when the whistle sounded for “time” defendant come into the house and became very abusive. Witness told him about his language and he then leaned over the bar and struck her on the face. He continued to be abusive, did not leave the policeman came. She denied calling him a rat

William Wall, complainant’s father, gave corroborative evidence and said he refused to serve defendant drink after 10 o’clock.

Defendant denied striking complainant. He thought that if he struck a woman something would happen to his arm. He had a sister of his own. “Do I looked the kind of creature to strike a woman to harm her?” He added

“You have made a fool of yourself and struck a woman; you have got to behave yourself in the future,” said the chairman (Mr G.E.Cooke Yarborough) in conveying the magistrates decision.
