Denaby Man’s Wandering

In The Early Hours

A Denaby man wandering in the early hours of last Saturday resulted in the man, Patrick Owens (33) miner, of 7 Annerley St, being brought before the Doncaster magistrate later in the morning on a charge of being found in enclosed premises with intent to commit a felony. He was fined £2.

PC Bowden said that at one time that morning he saw the prisoner, who was without jacket and cap. Go to the gates of the slaughter house, open them, go inside, and fasten them behind him. Through an opening in the wall witness saw him try the slaughter house door. He then came back, climbed a seven foot wall, and then open the gate on seeing the witness. He asked the prisoner what he was doing there, but he couldn’t give no account of himself. He had had some drink, but was perfectly sober, and knew what he was doing.

Owen said he did not remember how he got there.

The prisoner’s landlord said that when he went to the house at 10 p.m. he was drunk. He had lived with witness for 10 years, and he seemed to get more drunk after he had been in the house some time, as though it got hold of him.
