Two Kept in Custody

Two Denaby men accused of five charges of jointly attempting to break and enter property were remanded in custody until Friday, 10th August, at Doncaster West Riding Court on Friday.

The men, Daniel Healy (22), labourer, of Blyth Street, Denaby, and Donald Hay, (21), haulage hand of Doncaster Road, Denaby, were accused of jointly attempting to break into a school and four shops the property of W. H. Mills, A. Dunkersley, M. Brough and Brocklesley and Wright.

The magistrates refused their applications for bail. Both men had been remanded in custody for a day on Thursday, when Chief Superintendent L. D. Lewery said that at 1 AM on the same day PC Agus saw them standing at the rear of a greengrocer shop in Doncaster Road, Denaby. The men ran away and the constable noticed that an attempt had been made to open the door. Although, the superintendent added, the constable gave chase, the men eluded him but three hours later he saw them again and arrested them.

The superintendent said that further enquiries had to be made.
