A Denaby Miner Assaulted
At Doncaster on Saturday, two young men named Elijah Taft and Daniel Edwards, of New Conisborough, were summoned for having assaulted Wm. Turner, miner, employed at the Denaby Main Colliery.
The complainant asked for the case to be adjourned, as his witness was away from home, but being told that he would have to pay the costs of the defendants and their witnesses, he said the matter had better proceed.
He then said that the defendants, along with others whom he did not know, knocked him down, kicked him, and dragged out his whiskers, hurting him so much that he could not work for several days afterwards.
The defendants called witnesses to state that they were not present at the time referred to, and the Chairman (Mr. Warde-Aldam) said although the complainant had undoubtedly been badly assaulted it was not proved that the defendants did it.
The case was dismissed.
