A Denaby Miner Sent to Prison

On Monday, at Doncaster, Joseph Henry Shipley, miner, of Denaby, was charged by Herbert Henry Wray, with the larceny of furniture, to the value of 35s.

Mr. Allen, who appeared for the prosecution, said that Mr. Wray was a furniture dealer, and on the 4th April in this year let on hire to the prisoner furniture to the value of £5, to be paid for at the rate of 3s. a week.

Directly after prisoner got hold of the goods he sold some of them. A man named John Moore bought a bedstead and a mattress, giving in exchange for them a watch and chain.

Prisoner pleaded guilty, and said he had sold the goods to provide food for his children, as he had had sickness in his family.

Prisoner, who had just come out of prison, where he had been for a month, was committed for 14 days.
