Denaby Neighbours Fall Out

Ada Shentall, of Denaby, summoned Susan Butcher for assault, on June 16th. She said the defendant accused her of immoral conduct stop shot sensitive proceedings against her many times, but on the date in question defendant struck on the arm with a coal rake, inflicting a wound which had to be medically treated.

PC Roper said he had been caught several times to the defendant, who seem to be an interfering woman. She was a soldier’s wife, otherwise she would have been reported before.

The defendant said the cause of the trouble was the Irish rebellion. One woman said that all the Irish ought to be sent to the front and shop, and she remonstrated with her. Her husband was in France, and she had seven children. She did not intend striking Mrs Shentall, but alleged she was always interfering with her.

Evidence was given by Doris Webster (12), Violet Grave (12) and Elizabeth Jevons.

The Chairman said these petty quarrels must cease.

Defendant was bound over.
