From U. S. A.
An interesting letter has been received from Mrs. Nora King, 349, 21 Street, Brooklyn, New York.
Mrs. King, who was formerly Miss Donoghue, went out to America with her husband in 1929. Before leaving England they resided at 4 John Street, Denaby. Mr and Mrs. Keen have just set up in business, and have a saloon bar and Grill in Brooklyn. They have called the bar a “pub,” because that sounds more English. Unlike English public houses, however, they stay open almost all night.
Evening Classes.
Evening classes have now commenced and a varied and interesting program is offered to intending students. At the middle school there are mining classes for adults, also first and second-year commercial classes, including English, Arithmetic and accounts and shorthand; housecraft courses, first and second years, including cookery, needlework, physical exercise and folk dancing, music classes, and orchestra, arts and craft, ambulance, nursing, dressmaking and cookery.
At the large Hall classes had been arranged in industrial mining, J.1 and J.2, music (vocal), ambulance classes, home nursing classes (ambulance headquarters), and a W. E. A. Class in English language and literature.
