Denaby Pull It Off
We said at the opening of the subsidiary competition of the Midland League that Denaby United had a team sufficiently good enough to win it.
Events have shown that our confidence was not misplaced. They have done really well. Mexborough did them a good turn on Saturday by drawing with your, the most dangerous rivals, and with the two points this ably earned from Rotherham Town, the position was practically secure. York were left with impossible or nearly impossible task of winning two matches and improving their goal average by over 100%, and even then the United would have had to drop both points at Frickley tomorrow for teams to be on the same footing.
The United’s 13 games have yielded 18 points, the teams to beat them being York city (0-1), Castleford Town (0-2), Wombwell (0-4). None of the defeats were suffered at home, and each of them was averaged by a substantial victory on the Tickhill Road Ground. Only one point had been lost at home and Wath Athletic were the side responsible for it. Rotherham Town took them for a point at Clifton Lane. Their goal average is four away the best in the section or in fact in the all-league. For every goal scored against them their reply was two, and they have one to spare even then
