Presentation of Certificates and Medals Last Night
The annual gathering of the Denaby Main Rifle Club was held on Thursday evening in the Denaby Main Hotel.
Mr W.I. Gibbs provided an excellent tea for a good number.
Mr H S Witty presided at the subsequent meeting. He was supported by Mr A.H.Barnard, hon sec; Mr H Hulley, assistant sec; Mr William Hulse, Captain of the Mexborough Rifle Club; Mr E Robinson, Captain of the Denaby Main 1st team; Mr S.J. Bridges, captain of the Denaby Main 2nd team
The Annual Report.
Mr A.H.Barnard (on secretary and Treasurer) reported that the adverse balance of £26 9s 7d, with which they started the year had been wiped out. There was now a balance in hand of £2 18s 6d, while the ammunition in stock was £3 12s in value.
The club, last season, competed in the Kelley, Walker and Thursday league competitions, but did not succeed in taking a high place in any of the three, being in the Kelly Cup competition, one of the two lowest in the division, and consequently they have dropped out of it, and will this year compete in the Walker Cup and Little London Shield competitions. It is intended to again compete in the Thursday League.
The club medal for highest aggregate of five nett scores in the Kelly Cup matches was won for the second year in succession by Mr W Ramskill, with 652 points out of a possible 700. The runner up was myself, with three points less (649). The medal for Walker Cup matches was one by the late Mr T Munting, with an aggregate of 643 points. The club had suffered a severe loss of the sad death of this promising shot. His brother, Mr Arthur Munting, was second for the medal with 639 points.
The Thursday medal was run by Mr Henry Hulley with 556 points.
The Presidents prize, a pair of field glasses (given by Mr WH Chambers, was run by Mr Ernest Robinson, with 259 points (H.P.S.280 points), Mr Lenny Wright being second with 257 points.
The winners of the Cup presented by Captain M.E.W Pope for monthly competition were: May, Mr W Ranskill; June Mr T.R.W. Hall; July, Mr T Oxley; August, Mr T Oxley; September Mr S.J. Bridges; and October Mr R.J. Troughton.
The annual prise meeting and competition for the Kilner Challenge Cup was held in September 29 and October 1. The cup was won by Mr T Oxley with 190 points. In addition to the miniature matches the club entered for the full range competition inaugurated by Sheffield and District rifle Association at their range at Little Matlock, and were successful in winning second prize for the highest aggregate of four students on for days. The prize, £3 goes to the friends of the club. Mrs Barnard, French, Ranskill and Royal Wood were winners of the four bronze prizes for high scores on May 14th.
