Denaby Strike Sequel

Impending Action

As is well known, the Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries Company are suing the Yorkshire Miners’ Association for the alleged payment of strike pay, and the case is likely to be heard early in October.

The statement of claim has been issued by the plaintiffs, who assess their damages at £125,000.

The case for the Miners’ Association is in the hands of Messrs. Raley and Sons, of Barnsley, and Messrs. Croft and Nolan, who are also defendants, are represented by Mr. M. E. Hall, solicitor, of Mexborough.

The decision of the High Court is awaited with great interest, for it is evident the verdict will have a great bearing on the future of trades unionism.

There are still about four to five hundred unemployed miners in the vicinity of Mexborough.
