Denaby Transfer Brannan

Brilliant Goalkeeper Joins Arsenal

Denaby are to lose “Mick” Brannan, their brilliant goalkeeper at the end of this season. Negotiations for his transfer to the Arsenal which were opened as long ago as last November were concluded on Wednesday, when Mr. Percy Harrison (secretary-manager of the club), and Brannan interviewed Mr. Herbert Chapman at Huddersfield, after the Arsenal’s game with Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.

It is a condition of Brannan’s transfer that he will play with Denaby in their remaining games this season and he went with the team to Boston yesterday. Though the fee is not disclosed it is understood to be one of the largest received by a Midland League club in post-war football.

Brannan, who is 21 years of age, stands 5ft. 11 ½ ins and weighs 11st. 7lbs. He has been with Denaby for the last three seasons, and during that time has only missed four matches, two through injury and two through illness. This season he has played in every match, having so far made 44 appearances in Midland League matches besides playing in a number of cup ties.

Prior to joining Denaby he was with Wombwell, and as a boy he played for the Yorkshire Schools team, and later Dearne Valley 0.B. He got his place in Denaby’s first team when Albert Smith broke a leg at Lincoln three years ago, and has never since been displaced. He has given many excellent displays for Denaby and his coolness and skill in catching the ball in almost any position are features of his play.
