Denaby Transfer Wilcox
The football season is only young but Denaby United have again provided the Football League with another player – George Wilcox, an 18-year-old right full-back of distinct promise.
Monday’s game with Frickley Colliery attracted the “scouts” and immediately the game was over negotiations were opened and then United accepted the offer of Mr George Joby of Derby County.
The transfer fee has not been divulged (£300 with £25 to Wilcox) but the terms are very satisfactory. Wilcox thus joined the same club as Jack Barker, the English international centre half, who was transferred from Denaby United several seasons ago.
Wilcox had a trial with Sheffield Wednesday, before taking part in Denaby United’s first practice games. He got his chance in the second match of the season and has kept his place ever since.
He joined the club from Treeton, his hometown club. He stands 5’8” and weighs 11 stone 8 pounds.
The Denaby club have secured this signature of George Cotton from Thurnscoe Vics and former with Wath Road. He is 20 years of age, ways lime stone 8 pounds and stands 5’9”.
Ellis, who is at present playing inside left for the United, scored 148 goals for Selby Town during the last two seasons from the centre forward position. In his month with Grimsby Town this season. He scored six goals in the first two matches. He is a useful asset to the United’s attack.
