Denaby Are Clear !

Needing two points to make their position in the Midland League absolutely secure (one point would left the issue to goal average), Denaby United stormed their way through to a 4-2 victory over Scarborough before a delighted crowd at Denaby last night.

Most delighted United player must have been young Mervyn Law, (picture) who got a hat-trick (all grand goals) and thereby shared place with Schofield and Dale as fourth leading goal scorer among the Denaby forwards this season. Schofield has two more in cup matches.

Scarborough’s impressive forwards were off the mark in the eighth minute when Taylor, unmarked on the left wing, crossed the ball beautifully for BELL to pick his spot in the net.

With the ball still half white with Whitewash from a near miss, Rowney pushed through a perfect pass for VARDY to get the equaliser, 16 minutes later, and in the 30th minute LAW got the first of for his three goals. Luck was with him, for his long, low shot first hit the upright and foxed Hannaby with its rebound, but it was a good opportunist shot, well taken on the run.

The score at half-time was 2-1, but within 12 minutes of the re-start LAW had made it 3-1, and in the 23rd minute of this half he completed his hat-trick.

HILTON, fast moving forward of a good Scarborough line, got Scarborough’s second goal one minute later.
