Denaby United Football Club

The Denaby United Football Club had a very trying and difficult experience during the season 1902–3, owing to the lamentable and distressing strike.

It will be remembered that last season saw the club’s entrance into the Midland League, and although they were rather low down the league table, with 23 points to their credit, still, all things considered, the committee and other officials of the club may fairly congratulate themselves upon having done so well.

Of course, it could not possibly be expected to have any other than an adverse account from a financial point of view, but the club will again contest in the Midland League next season, and hopes are entertained of restoring the club to a sound financial position.

Many of the old players have changed their quarters, and not a few of them will be found assisting the revived Mexboro’ Town Club.

The Denaby Club have, therefore, had to find fresh players to fill up the vacancies, and they confidently look forward to the ensuing season, which is expected to be one of the most noteworthy in the history of the club.

The following is a list of players that are expected to turn out during the next season:—

Goal, J. Hancock (South Kirkby), W. Allen (Buxton).

Backs, W. Lawley (Barnsley), T. Dudhill, J. Chomney (Doncaster), P. Adams (Mexboro’ United), and W. Hobson (Mexboro’ United).

Half-backs, R. Goddard, Geo. Chadfield, E. Dowson, Wilfred Whitehouse, Sam Hawthorne (Warrington), J. Wallett (Sutton), H. Cartwright (Bloxwich Strollers), and S. Watts.

Forwards, J. Hunt (Burnhope), J. T. Armstrong (Hunslet), J. Richards (Rugby Albion), E. Hall (Mexboro’ United), E. Ryane, R. Girford (Everton Combination), W. McRae (Liverpool), S. Davie, J. Moller (Radcliffe), G. L. Robinson, James Dick (Glasgow Port Athletic), H. Fowler (Walsall).
