Denaby United Signed Six New Players
Denaby United Midland League football club announced this week the list of players on their books for the coming season. Most of these have been retained from last season but there are six new signings, most of them forwards.
First of the new signings is K Lambert, (inside right or left) has made previously played with Barnsley, Bradford City and Gillingham. He is 5’10” in height, weighs 11 stone 6 pounds and is 26. Another inside forward – from Selby town – is Austin Egan. Egan, who scored a number of calls for Selby in the Yorkshire league is 5 foot nine in height and weighs 11 stone.
Brian Clarke, who has returned after two seasons with Corby Town is quite a useful player – as Denaby fans already know. He can put of an excellent show at any position; it is intended at present to play him at outside right. He’s only 23 , 5’9” and 11 stone.
A young player of promise is Peter Wroe, a full-back or wing half, from Wath Wanderers. He’s only 18 and played once in the Denaby first team at Lincoln putting up a useful show against more experienced players.
Sec manager Mr Matt Taylor told the “South Yorkshire Times” this week that the club are still interested in two forwards, but finance prevents them engaging star players “who sometimes let you down” and it is difficult these days to get players at their price.
The club are holding 3 practice matches, the first on Saturday evening, July 21, kick-off 5:30 PM when only two regulars will be playing – Williamson and Southall. All the others are players on trial including quite a lot of promising lads, who, Mr Taylor states, will be well worth watching. The best players will be chosen for further practice games. Final practice is on Saturday evening. August 11th (kick-off to be decided) when all players signed will take part. All the gale damage and committee rooms has now been renovated. Other additions have been done to the ground by voluntary workers. Some of the players have already commenced training and others will commence on July 17th at 5:30 PM. The club’s three players at Sheffield had been granted permission to train at Hillsborough and the club are very grateful.
Supporters will be pleased to hear that Mr Taylor is now on the road to recovery after his operation Sheffield Royal infirmary. “I would like to thank, through your paper, all who wrote to me and for the kind enquiries regarding my health and well-being” Mr Taylor added.
