Denaby United Signings
Jack Williams Back From Leeds
Added interest will be taken in Denaby United’s last trial match to-morrow with the appearance of new signings Jack Williams (picture) and Terence Clark.
The signing of Williams from Leeds United was clinched by Denaby on Tuesday.
Williams was transferred to the Elland Road club from Denaby in 1948 for £1,000—a record for Denaby—after being the subject of constant offers from League clubs. As a boy, Williams played with Adwick Road and Mexborough District Schoolboys.
When he joined Leeds United he had been with Denaby since he was 17. He will be a left back tomorrow and at Inside right in the opposing team will be Terry Clark.
This 22-years-old strongly built inside or centre forward scored 14 goals with Rotherham United’s team Midland League team last season. He has also had first team experience.
At left-half in the same team will be Albert Hibbert, a 19-years-old Swinton lad who was signed by Denaby after Wednesday’s trial. Last season he played with Bakers Sports.
Several new players were introduced on Wednesday, and some attractive football was served up by the Reds left flank of Cox and Stocks. Cox was particularly prominent with his intelligent use of the ball and powerful shot. For the Blues, brothers H. Trickett and G. Trickett combined well, and will be given further trials to-morrow. The goalscorers were Pearson (3), Parkin and Cox (Reds) and Deering and Ball (Blues).
Kick-off to-morrow at Tickliill Square is at b4 p.m. Gate charge will be 6d. and 3d. for women and boys. All proceeds from the trials will be for Denaby and ConIshrough folk.
