Another High Figure Deal at Denaby
Denaby United Secretary – manager, Arthur Roberts, had a very pleasant note to bring to the Midland league clubs annual meeting last weekend. On Saturday after United’s 3-0 victory at Peterborough in their last March of the season, they transferred Sam Cox, their right full back, to West Bromwich Albion for one of the highest fees in the history of the club.
Surplus Balance of £703
Denaby received £1250 from other transfers last season. Revenue accounts showed total receipts of £4284 19s 6d, including “gates” of £2539 15s 5d, less proportion to visitors £159 16s 7d. Season tickets but in £51 2s 6d, workmen’s contributions £490 12s 9d and patrons £79 6s. After all expenses were met, surplus balance for the season was £703 9s
Denaby won 16 of their Midland League fixtures, lost 17 and drew nine, with a goal average of 82-84. Mr. Roberts said on the whole, he felt they had had- a better playing season than In the previous year, though they had not so amity points to show for It. That, largely, was due to injuries. After-winning three of the first four matches they lost nine of the succeeding ten, and during that period they had Schofield off for eight weeks, Williams for four, Wright for indefinite periods (he had had a crop of bad luck) and they lost Windle to Leeds !United. So, that It was not until December 20th that they were able to field their most strongly representative side; and on that afternoon they scored 10 goals-against Ollerton. Since then they had been “in and Out,”. though since Christmas they had done pretty well, and’ It was a pleasing reflection that they-had seven of a possible eight points pointe-from their-engagements- with Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe.
