Costly Misses By Frickley Forwards

Frickley 0 Denaby United 1

In a splendidly contested game at South Elmsall, Denaby completed the double over Frickley on Saturday.

The game was one of the best seen at Westfield Lane for some time, but Frickley spoilt a fine display by ineffective finishing. They were slightly the better of two smart teams, and they ought to have had two or three goals before MULLIGAN, racing up the right wing beat Rasburn 13 minutes from the end. The exchanges were fast and exciting, and Shephard provided the biggest thrill of the first half when he fired in a great drive which hit the bar, Rasburn tipping the ball over.

There was plenty of excitement after the interval, in which Hazell and Fleetwood were guilty of bad misses for Frickley. Hazell, a clever left winger, brilliantly weaved his way through the Denaby defence, only to tap the ball to Gibson, while immediately after Mulligan had scored Fleetwood blazed wide of an open goal.

On the run of play a draw would have been a fair result, but Denaby reaped the reward by a smartly taken chance. Both defences claimed premier honours. Gibson made no mistakes and was well covered by Carr and Wilkinson, while Warren and Jones (backs), and Nixon and Wright (wing halves), distinguished themselves for Frickely.
