Too Strong For Denaby

Barnsley Reserves  4   Denaby United 0

Denaby lost their third game in succession so a Football League reserve side when they went under by four clear goals to Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday.

Barnsley had an exceptionally strong team out and the local team were not disgraced by the defeat, giving a stubborn display in the second half after Barnsley had established a 4-goal lead in the first half hour of the game.

King (picture) defended finely but was unable to get the Denaby forwards going, Siddall being the only one to show any enterprise near goal. Barnsley made the unusual experiment of trying Lockie, one of their centre-half-hacks on the left wing. The player did quite well in his unaccustomed position and had a hand in the scoring of three of the goals.

WALLBANKS opened Barnsley’s account lowly in the game, and after Lynch had saved a good shot from Siddall, TURNBULL shot two more goals for Barnsley in quick succession.

WALLBANKS put on a fourth goal for Barnsley from one of Lockie’s good centres. Barnsley continued to do most of the attacking after the interval but brilliant goalkeeper by Gale and the staunch work of the penalty hacks, ably assisted by King, prevented further scoring.
