Denaby paid dearly for attempting the close passing game on a sodden and slippery ground at Bradford. Passes were short, and often went to Bradford players. Bradford City deserved their big victory.
Soon after the start Seth King received a blow in the ribs, but carried on, though he was unable to do himself or the team justice.
Most of the work fell to Roberts and Taylor, and they defended pluckily, while Astle saved many more shots than those that passed him. Neither Taylor, Roberts or Astle could be blamed for this biggest defeat of the season.
Smith and Fitzgerald were sadly off form and the forwards received scant support. Siddall was about the best forward, while Guest, a new centre-forward on trial, showed his worth with the few chances he had. Parker, in the home goal, was fortunate to save three of Guest’s shots.
Wallbanks proved a good back, but the real stumbling block to Denaby was McLaren at centre-half. Adamson, the centre-forward, got more rope than he would have done had King been fit, and scored five goals.
Denaby made a promising start, but McDermott broke up a dangerous raid. At the other end Adamson shot over and Astle had to deal with two successive corners.
The Denaby goal had many narrow escapes, and Astle was eventually beaten when ROBSON headed in from a corner. After this Bradford attacked more vigorously, and ADAMSON scored twice.
Before the interval Bradford brought their total to seven, through C. SOUTHCOTT (2) and ADAMSON (2).
Bradford eased up in the second half, ADAMSON completing his “nap” hand.
Denaby made very little headway.
