Sheffield Daily Telegraph — Tuesday 14 April 1903
Chesterfield Reserve 1 Denaby United 0
At Chesterfield, in fine weather, before a fair gate, Denaby soon got away, and forced a corner, which was fruitless.
Chesterfield took up the offensive, and the Denaby custodian was called upon to handle. Goodlad shot wide when well placed, and Gamble missed an easy opening. Mills scored for Chesterfield just before the interval.
On resuming, Chesterfield pressed, and Capperdale skimmed over the crossbar. An off-side goal followed to the same team.
Unwin retired hurt after twenty minutes’ play. Dudhill failed to score for the visitors from a penalty. Denaby tried hard to equalise, but were unable to penetrate the home defence.
The game ended with the visitors well up.
Result:— Chesterfield Res., 1 goal; Denaby, 0 goal.
