Well Done Denaby!

Chesterfield Reserves 1 Denaby United 3

At Chesterfield too, Really, Denaby are upholding the football reputation of the Don Valley with distinction. Two months of the football season clean gone, and Denaby still unbeaten. Are we going to have a repetition of last year, and see their “villagers” keeping a clean certificate up to Christmas!

I hope so but it is a tall order. Yet more unlikely things have happened, and it is evident that Denaby have again got together a rattling good team. Personally I must say that I viewed their visit to Chesterfield last Saturday with considerable apprehension. An away match is always a stiff hurdle to negotiate. No matter where or how the receiving club may be placed in the table. And Chesterfield are just the kind of team to rise to the occasion and spring a surprise on the visitors, who are frequently disillusioned when point hunting in the town of the crooked spire.

Besides, a side like Denaby, possessing a proud record, unsmerched by defeat, have while they retain it, to always meet opponents, keener than usual, to be the first to humble the envious record in the dust.

Hence, for my part, well and creditably as Denaby are playing, I shall never be surprised to see the side go down. Defeat is only to be expected sooner or later in the natural order of things, but it is good for the present to see Denaby doing so well. Their victory at Chesterfield was well worthy of hearty praise, not only because of its substantial character, but because of the fine football played by the “colliers” all round. There was no suggestion of our playing ineffectively in league games after the work of English cup ties.

Out every time, trying all the way. That’s Denaby, a smart team, in their smart green jerseys and white knickers. They are indeed a credit to the district.
