Chesterfield’s Deserving Win

Chesterfield Town 2  Denaby United 0

Play of a scrambling nature was witnessed throughout the game between Chesterfield and Denaby United on the Recreation Ground, but, nevertheless, Chesterfield could be said to thoroughly deserved their victory. the visitors were palpably weak forward, and especially was this noticeable when they got anywhere near goal. The home forward line could not be said to be on the top of their form, but this could be accounted for by the greasy ground.

Ball, Chesterfield new centre from Clay Cross, played a splendid game, and signalised his appearance by scoring one of the goals, Redhill obtaining the other.

The home back line was a sound department, stressful claim one of his best games.

Mexborough’s Big Win

Mexborough 6  Castleford Town 1

Castleford Town’s visit to Mexborough afforded the home team a profitable game from a goal getting point of view. For the first half of the respective defences held out, but subsequently the Mexborough forwards developed an aggressiveness altogether too penetrative for the Castleford backmarkers.

Connolly was again prominent as a sharpshooter, and the fact that he did the “hat-trick” indicates what a prominent party took in the play. The other goals for the home team was called by Frost, Wathey and Crump, the latter from a penalty.

Crozier got Castleford’s only point, but seeing that Smith was responsible for the preliminary pass, was allowed to go on when off-site, the visitors were in the sense fortunate to “break their duck.”
