Frickley’s Double On Denaby

Denaby United 0. Frickley Colliery 1

Frickley completed the double over Denaby yesterday, but It was only by the narrowest of margins that they look the points from Tickhill Square.

The winning goal came early in the game, when Dixon neatly turned centre from Gore. At this period Frickley were by far the more dangerous side, sweeping to the attack with wide, swinging movements, and Smith in goal made two brilliant saves from Lawson.

Gradually, however, the visitors lost their grip and the remainder of the game was very even. If anything, Denaby had the more chances to turn the game In their favour afterwards, but the inside forwards could not finish their work near goal. The best scoring efforts were long-range shots from Fleetwood and one good drive from Bets after he had taken over the leadership. Jenklnson, in goal, however, was equal to them all, and he played particularly smart game.

In the second half Denaby defenders had the measure of their opponents, but the same applied to Bradford and Collier at the other end. Stone had some very good chances to make headway on the Denaby right but wasted them.

The game was generally entertaining and last, and the attendance was far better than usual.
