Gainsborough Gambols
Big Win at Tickhill Square
Denaby United 0 Gainsborough Trinity 5
Gainsborough went within only a goal of hitting the bell at Tickell Square on Saturday. From their point of view it was a pity. They might have had a dozen. They played the more organised football – as far as it went – and it had the desired result. But it was a scrappy afternoon. For one thing this influx of new recruits from Mexborough and Frickley brought very naturally a certain lack of understanding and for another it was beginning of the season stuff.
Actually, Saturday’s showing produced little to be alarmed about. There were few really serious mistakes in any part of the game or in any department. The halves and forwards did not work together so small as they might have done – it was a machine that run in fits and starts – and did a bit of grinding in between – but the backs chiefly were most unstable. The hard working Gainsborough forwards often caught them of their guard.
