“Sticky” Day at Denaby
Denaby 0, Newark 2
Both the going and the fare were heavy at Tickhill Square, where Newark exactly reversed the result of Denaby’s visit to them on November 5th, and unexpectedly , gained distinction by being the first successful visitors to the ground this season.
Denaby were still without Black, and though Moss, the Sheffielder, worked hard his absence made a difference. It did not, however, account for Denaby’s poor show. It was their poorest in a league game at Tickhill Square this season, and they were deservedly beaten. The ball appeared to be too heavy for the players and Newark decided the only way to get over the difficulty was to concentrate on accurate short passing—and Denaby let them do it.
Newark showed themselves a moderate side with a stout pivot in Skull, whom we have met before in Scunthorpe and Rotherham colours and a box of tricks at inside – left in Lowe, These two made just the difference between two teams who played little open football – these and the opportunism of HARRIS, the Newark centre-forward, who got both the goals.
Not a man in the Denaby side played up to form and Seth King had a completely off day. He did not improve matters by going centre-forward in the second half, though Adams also had an off game.
After the season’s previous displays, it was an almost unrecognisable Denaby, whose return to form is eagerly awaited.
