County Reserves v Denaby

The County Reserves, after journeying all the way to Denaby, and playing a strong game under the most depressing of circumstances, were fortunate enough to bring home a point, for their match ended in a draw of one goal each.

They were playing on a heavy ground, and in drizzling rain, so that the condition of their game were not those which are generally considered favourable for a display of good football. Nevertheless, taken on the whole, the County Reserves had much the best of the game, and Middleton and Leckie were admittedly ahead of any other players on the field. Indeed, Middleton’s flashes on the extreme left, and his accurate centres, were something to remember. He scored for the County after twenty minutes’ play, and they maintained the lead at the interval.

It was upon resuming that Denaby showed to better advantage, though they were never equal to Derby in the matter of combination. Nimrod, after missing one good chance, made amends for it by equalising just near the end of the game, and so matters ended.

Davies and Lloyd were also in good form on the Denaby side. The County Reserves are now just about the centre of the Midland League table, with even Grimsby and Chesterfield above them. They have only eleven points for their twelve matches, and they must look to their laurels if they want to appear anywhere near the top at the end of the season.
