Denaby Utd – Denaby 1   Doncaster Rovers Res 1

11 April 1903

Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Saturday 11 April 1903

Denaby United 1   Doncaster Rovers Reserve 1

Played at Denaby yesterday morning, before a fair holiday crowd, Denaby had the best of the opening exchanges, and were early on granted a penalty, though an infringement by the Doncaster defence. Roper took the kick, but Stables saved splendidly.

Doncaster played up, and a desperate attack saw Tayles bring off a splendid save. Robinson got away on the extreme left, and scored a goal for Doncaster with a long shot. Denaby retaliated, but the visiting defence was sound, and the home forwards were beaten back, play ruling even. A grand shot by Lindley was scooped out by Stables.

At the interval Doncaster led by a goal. Resuming, Doncaster showed the prettier football, and Tayles had an anxious time in the Denaby goal, the home backs, however, defending well. Denaby made a big effort to get on terms, and a fast rush led by Briggs was responsible for the equaliser, Stables having no chance of saving. Lindley ran through the Doncaster backs, but his shot lacked sting.

Result:—Denaby United, 1 goal; Doncaster Reserve, 1 goal.
