Entertaining Play Despite Conditions
Denaby United 1 Gainsborough Trinity 2
Denaby United goalkeeper Don Oslear saw his lucky run come to a full stop on Saturday when he let in a couple of goals from his old club—Gainsborough Trinity—both scored by former Rotherham United skippers GUEST and NOBLE.
United’s only goal was scored by Centre-forward and ex-Gainsborough player Paul SWABY, whose personal tally this season now stands at 20.
Both sides put on some entertaining football despite the atrocious conditions at Tickhill Square. Deep, clinging mud caused spectacular skids, cut down speed and impaired shooting accuracy. One long range shot from Trinity centre-forward Cliff Martin found Oslear well away from the goalinouth, but the ball rolled to a sickening stop only inches away from the line.
At half-time, Oslear, who was almost unrecognisable, had to have a complete change of kit.
All the goals were scored in the first half. Guest opened after 23 minutes and Noble increased Trinity’s lead 17 minutes later from a free kick. A medium range drive into the back of the net by Swaby reduced the arrears with only two minutes of flit. half to go.
