Denaby United 1 Goole Town 1
The opening few minutes of the Denaby – Goole match at Denaby on Monday evening seemed to promise plenty of goals.
After only five minutes, Goole went ahead with a goal by centre forward Johnson, but the fast, enterprising, football did not last both defences began to master the tactics and free kicks for offside became frequent.
Shortly before half-time Martin was injured in a tackle and was limping. Goole retained their lead at half-time.
After the interval Martin went on the wing and although Denaby made frequent attacks they were obviously missing him in the centre. Denaby full-back Hague, made a grand full length of the pitch, beating several defenders on the way and he sent it to Martin who moved inside, the latter shot wide.
Then after 65 minutes Marty was fouledd in the penalty area as he was about to shoot and Southall scored from the “spot” to get the equaliser.
Only a few minutes from time, a Goole defender had to kick off the line of the group headed from Egan.
