Shock for Denaby
Denabby United 1 Grimethorpe Rovers 3
Grimethorpe Rovers sprang a surprise at Denaby on Saturday when they beat Denaby United 3-1. The Grimethorpe side included a first-class left wing pair in Rochester and Phillips, who inspired the whole team.
The Rovers scored after 10 minutes through ROCHESTER from a neat pass by Horner. Phillips and Wright showed their speed in an end to end dash, PLATT converting the centre from Phillips.
The United rallied, but the Rovers’ defence, in which Sid Ward was dominant, stood firm, though Smith and Gibbs went close to scoring.
The second half saw the Rovers still on top, ROCHESTER putting them further ahead before SHEPPARD reduced the lead from a penalty.
The Rovers owed much to strong half-backs in Harris, Perry and Horner.
