Denaby Utd – Denaby 1 Grimsby Reserve 2 – “Fishermen” Luckiest Fellows in World

15 January 1910

Star Green ‘un – Saturday 15 January 1910

Denaby United  1 Grimsby Reserve 2

Denaby United have good cause for complaint at being defeated by Grimsby Reserve.

The ‘‘Fishermen” were the luckiest fellows in the world on Saturday.

Lonsdale, their goalkeeper alone saved them from a big drubbing.

For though Denaby only scored once, their forwards shot really well, though Dyal was once a big sinner in missing an open goal.

Chris Keller had the misfortune put through his own goal, and this, with the luck that sent their way, and the brilliant display Lonsdale, helped to make Grimsby happy.

The “Villagers” continue to make experiments, but the right wing, composed of Dyal and McKinnon ( a new player) was not an improvement on Hartley and Butler.

In Dodsley, Denaby have undoubtedly picked up the best outside left they have had since Joe Ball was at his best, all of whom Heppenstall was a leading forager in their attack.
