Denaby United 1 Mexborough 1

Denaby on Saturday claimed distinction as the first team this season to escape defeat in a meeting with Mexborough. The balance of the day’s honours went to them, for within five minutes from the start Ben Johnson was hurt and lost to them for the rest of the game. The occurrence was curiously reminiscent of the mighty struggle at Denaby last year, when Mexborough fought gamely through with a man short for all but a few minutes of the game.

As on that occasion the handicap seemed to inspire the sufferers to better work and Denaby got no more than their desert in the result.
