Not Up To Standard

Denaby United 1, Notts. County Res. 1

Saturday’s match at Tickhill Square was not up to the standard of that of a week earlier, and a draw was on the whole an equitable result, though Denabv again did rather more of the attacking. They had not, however the forward punch they showed against Bradford.

Walker, tried at centre-forward was generally crowded out and unable to put in the scheming which makes him so valuable an inside-left. Hayes and Fitzgerald, of Maltby (who has had a game or two with Mexboro’, introduced into the inside put in some good touches. notably Fitzgerald, but the line was not in its best working order. Still, it was FITZGERALD who snapped the chance that gave Denaby their only goal.

PICKARD got the equaliser and deserved to for he was easily the best of a moderate Notts. County attack. As in the match with Bradford, Denaby’s most serious check was provided by a big and experienced centre-half, this time Affleck, who rendered Notts. County invaluable service. So did Feebury,a hefty left back whose kicking in a tricky wind was admirable.

The Denaby halves, as worked hard and effectively, but the backs were not quite so sure as usual. It was an error by Mountney that gave Notts. County their only goal. It was a game in which few laurels were gained, for the wind was too often better than the man.
