A moderate number of spectators assembled on the Denaby ground, to witness this match.

The teams lined up as follows:

Denaby: Tayles goal; Hollingsworth and Hilton backs; Shaw, H. Whitebouse, and T. Rushforth, half-backs; Lindley, Campbell, Gladwin, Groves and Westwood forwards.

Sheffield Club: Owen, goal; Thomas and Chidden: E. Hoyland, Mills, and Frost, half-backs; Bedford, Willey, G. Hoyland, Tyler, and Slater, forwards.

The visitors attacked strongly, and Hilton, mis kicking Tyler scored. The next minute Bedford, who had an undeniable chance, shot miserably wide. Eventually the Denaby forwards got going, but the visitors defence was sound. Bedford, with a fine low shot, brought Tayles to his knees. The same player shortly afterwards centred well, and Tyler beat Tayles a second time.

Denary attacked with spirit after this second reverse, and Lindley just missed scoring with a fine shot. Following this the Denaby forwards seemed tax in their efforts , and Sheffield had little difficulty in dealing with their attack. Hoyland hit the crossbar with a good shot, with Tayles apparently beaten. Lindley got going, but. My Frost. Gladwin sent in a shot, which Owen only partially cleared, and Westwood, rushing up, sent in a further shot, this was put behind, a corner resulting, but nothing accrued. From a free kick Owen had to save hurriedly. This

Tayles had next to run out to save from G. Hoyland, and a couple of corners accrued to the home team, but they proved of no avail, and Westwood, when he appeared to have a chance, placed wide Lindley placed nicely to Groves, but the latter shot very tamely, with only Owen to beat. Denaby obtained a fruitless corner. Shortly afterwards Hilton landed the hall, with a beautiful long shot to the other end, and Westwood got in a fast grounder, which Owen beat away. Denaby for a spell at the best of the play, but halftime arrived with the score:

Sheffield Club two goals, Denaby one.

On resuming Denaby pressed hotly in a scuffle ensued in the Sheffield goal but the defence prevailed. Westwood got a nice shot, but Owen cleared. He sent in another fine shot. The Club then wore their opponents down, and Bedford and Tyler added two more goals. Time was called.
