Transformed From Lambs Into Tigers

Denaby United  1 Sutton Town, 1.

It is the twilight of the season. And up to the first 60 minutes it looked as though Denaby were going to end their home matches on a gloomy note.

Then an unexpected burst of fire and urgency by the United forwards, who previously were completely at sea against the Sutton defence, pierced the darkness.

It all began with fearless left-half Edgar Bourne. Slater was too hesitant in front of goal. Edgar pounced on the loose ball, charged through on his own, and brought two Sutton defenders down before blasting goalwards.

The ball smashed into the crossbar, ballooned upwards and Sutton ‘keeper Pugh leapt high to clear.. Denaby then attacked with renewed vigour, showing the spirit which has been sadly lacking in recent games.

Friel’s Goal

Friel, who gave a very creditable left-wing display, scored from an awkward angle in the 70th minute. Transformed from lambs into tigers Denaby nearly went ahead on several occasions In the dying minutes:

The first half of this last home game is perhaps best forgotten. The visitors—swifter, slicker and more confident—went ahead through live-wire -winger Praski in the 25th minute.

Pat on the back for Jim Williams, as dependable as ever; local boy Arthur Oliver—a promising display in his fifth Midland League appearance; right-winger Lees, who although he made several drastic mistakes, strengthened the position.
