More Fun than Football

Denaby United 11 Gresley Rovers 0

At Denaby. Denaby attacked strongly at the outset, and obtained a futile corner, while later offside spoilt pretty play by the home forwards, who repeatedly pressed. Kinsley once saved a header from Tompkins, but in another attack Hollings converted a centre from Heppinstall.
Play was not very interesting, Denaby be much the superior side. Lee’s once shuttle the Gresley crossbar, and in a subsequent attack Lindley sent white, whilst a shot from Lavery was only cleared with difficulty by Kinsley. Wileman pass the home backs, only to shoot wildly over the crossbar. At the other end Lindley called on Kinsley, who cleared.

Denaby now attack hotly, and Tomkins and Laverly scored in quick succession. Gresley, on resuming, twice tested Hancock with a good shot, and the game ruled more even.

Both ends were visited in turn but Denaby went further ahead, Laverly turning at centre from Lindley into the net.

Denaby were now all over their opponents, and Laverly in quick succession scored two more making the “hat-trick,” and his individual fourth point. Heppinstall scored Denaby’s seventh, Laverly the eighth, Hollings the ninth, Tomkins the tenth and Laverly the eleventh.
