Midland League
Denaby Break the Ice.

Denaby United 2, Boston United 1

Denaby gained their first league point by scoring a 2-1 win over Boston United at Tickhill square on Saturday, avenging in part the 7-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Boston in a few weeks ago. Although Denaby, who made indifferent use of many scoring opportunities, were the better team, then positional play was ragged. Boston’s attack lacked finishing power.

From the start Denaby’s attack functioned well, BURTON scoring after 10 minutes from a corner. During a series of attacks, Bostons inside-right, Bartley, threw away one of the best chances they had when he shot high over the bar. Denaby’s second goal came after 25 minutes, HURD putting the ball in from a pass from C. Shephard.

In the second half Boston’s only goal came when BARTLEY, ably supported by the rest of the forwards, one of whom, Buxford, had to leave the field shortly afterwards owing to an injury, swept through the Denaby defence and after a leading plant shot into the net from close range.

As in the first half, Denaby again missed opportunities, the forwards were well fed by Burkinshaw, who found his forwards with precision. The attacks were time and time again broken up by Plant and Godfrey, who did good work, despite one of the two lapses.
