The Christmas Games at Denaby

Although Goole by no means so formidable as Kings Lynn, a week earlier, Denaby United fully maintained their form to beat them 2-0 last weekend.

Hodgson turned a corner from Flynn into his own net to give Denaby a half-time lead, but United were playing the better football and fully deserve the advantage which was centred in the second half by a Poulson goal after 65 minutes.

This was the 12th league and cup goal Poulson has scored this season.

The Denaby defence had a very sound game and for the second successive week Barnes was one of the men of the match. Outside right Brian Clarke had a good game against his old colleagues.

Denaby United president, Mister Sam Peck, said this week, “There’s no doubt about it, our lads are playing really well just now, and I have every confidence that if they play like this pickup three or four points over the Christmas holiday. Boston mustn’t give us any chances…”

Notts Forest come to Tickhill Square tomorrow (Saturday) kickoff 2.15, Denaby go to Boston on Monday and Boston (who four days later will be tackling ‘Spurs in the FA Cup) come to Denaby on Tuesday. Pickup will again be to 15 and the attraction of the game promises the makings of a useful quartz gate.”
