Denaby United  2  Gresley Rovers  2

The Midland League match between Denaby United and Gresley Rovers at Denaby was started at an unusually late hour, owing to the field having been previously used for the Montagu Charity Cup final.

Seeing that the ground was emptied between the two games, a surprisingly good gate assembled for a second dose of football, not so exciting, perhaps, as the cup encounter that preceded it, but, for all that, a downright honest tussle between two teams of triers.

Gresley were clearly the better team in the first half, only the smart goalkeeping of Stables—a lad with a future—preventing the visitors crossing over with a bigger lead. Denaby usually do better in the closing moiety, and it was so in this match, the forward line exhibiting plenty of dash and not a little science.

The visitors seemed out of the hunt, but rallied, and Wileman once again placed the teams on an equality, a hard fight ending in a draw of two all.

For Denaby Stables, Chadfield, Dawson, Lawley, Dryal, and Whitehouse were the pick, and for Gresley, Jones and Ward played well at back, Fearn was a capable centre-half, and Burton and Wileman made up a right wing that always spelt danger.

Denaby United v. Gresley Rovers

At Denaby, Wileman scored for Gresley in the first half, but afterwards Ward, their left back, headed through his own goal, and Chadfield, Denaby, and Wileman added goals.

Result: Denaby United, 2 goals; Gresley Rovers, 2 goals.
