Three Games – Five Points
Denaby Take Two More from Lincoln
Denaby United 2 Lincoln City Reserves 1
Denaby United, who have taken five points from their last three Midland league games, took their league total to 39 by defeating Lincoln city reserves 2-1 at Tickhill Square last night.
A fourth minute goal by Deeley gave them a flying start. Hague took a free kick out on the right wing and when Warrington loss the ball, Deeley, Martin and Duggan were there to snap it off and it was Deeley who bundled it into the net. Morgan put a through ball to Cliff Martin of Parkgate, in the 35th minute, and this young centre forward showed yet again that given half a chance he knows how to make use of it. A lovely shot for Denaby’s second goal.
Lincoln made a considerable rearrangement in the second half, right back Jackson moving to centre forward, Birch out to the left wing, Finch the left-winger who always looked to have the beating of the Denaby defence at his toes, moved inside, Simms went on to the right wing and Smith moved inside. The change brought Lincoln’s only goal, scored by right back Jackson, now at centre forward, from a through pass by Finch in the 76th minute.
Lincoln always looked extremely dangerous, Jackson, Dykes, Ball and Finch being particularly impressive, but Denaby centre half Barnes, played an extremely good game, breaking contact through and in the last half minute United forced two successive corners to empathise that they were, indeed still in the hunt for goals.
Denaby go to Doncaster on Saturday. On Monday they are at home to Grantham (6.30). On Wednesday, May 22, they go to Wisbech and their last Midland league match is with Frickley, on Friday evening at Denaby (6.30).
The annual meeting of the club will be held on Sunday, 13th May
