Mexboro’ Win Yuletide “Derby.”

Denaby United 2  Mexborough Town 3

The Yuletide meeting of Denaby and Mexborough on the former’s ground aroused the customary enthusiasm and produced a rousing game for 4,500 spectators.

Mexborough had luxury of a victory by three goals to two, but a more fitting result would have been a draw . Allen, who deputised for the injured Birch in the Denaby goal, hardly being to standard.

In the first half Ingledew gave Denaby the lead, and then an indiscretion by the Denaby defence allowed Kennedy to equalise from a penalty.

Johnson put Denaby ahead again, but Carr quickly equalised with shot which , Allen allowed to slip through his hands.

The deciding goal scored Hill was the best of the lot.

Denaby were the better side in the first half, the forwards missed chances. The Mexborough attack was also at fault in the concluding stages, and they owed their victory to their half-backs. Kennedy, for Mexborough, and Ogley, for Denaby, were the best players.
