One Point Did Denaby Scant Justice
Both Were Merited

Denaby United 2  Peterborough  United 2

Denaby gave a considerably improved display on Saturday and their single point was scant justice in view of their tremendous superiority. Throughout they played fast football, out matching their opponents in both scale and speed. It was a surprise to most of the spectators that they managed to score only twice

I have no hesitation said that it was the presence  of Eddie Fleetwood, playing as well at left half, that brought back spirit and determination to the team.

As long as they maintain Saturday’s confidence they will soon rise in the table. There (fans) must have been delighted with their willingness to fight after being two goals down and in a seemingly hopeless position.

They open briskly and only wretched luck prevented Betts from putting them ahead, for, after heading onto the upright, he had the mortification of seeing seeing of seeing a a splendid shot, taken on the rebound, crash onto the crossbar. Denaby continued to attack a, the forward combining well with good support from behind, but the all-important goal eluded them. Then Dame Fortune frowned.  Peterborough took the lead after 20 minutes, all against the run of play. First Ellison miskicked in a sudden breakaway and letting the visiting outside right. Bowater left-winger had little difficulty in converting the centre. And so it went on with Denaby having 90% of the play but being unable to find the net.

In The Second Half

The second half began as the first half finished with the Denaby forwards almost continually in the Peterborough goal mouth. Again the visitors scored from a breakaway after 20 minutes, and again the scorer was Bowater, who converted a well-placed centre from the right.

Denaby fought back still harder and this time their efforts met with the success they deserved. Within a few minutes there was a scramble in the Peterborough goal mouth and Betts managed to put the ball into the net. The spectators had almost given up hope when Betts with the very last kick of the match score the equaliser, again from a goalmouth melee.
